I am proud to say that I was a part of the small team of Theo Balcomb, Lisa Tobin and Michael Barbaro that helped dream up and create The Daily.
Our aim was to innovate.
We wanted daily news with more depth, context, heart and room for ambiguity than what we saw in most television, print and radio news products. We wanted to create a new sound that broke away from the conventions of commercial and public radio. Acknowledging that many Americans do not trust The New York Times any more than they trust other media organizations, we aimed to tell stories and publish voices that could help build trust in our reporting and guard against assumptions of political bias.
It was an honor to work somewhere so ambitious, alongside colleagues so ambitious.
In the winter fo 2021, after producing hundreds of stories and several series for the company, I resigned from the NYTimes and left the editorial staff of The Daily.
